| Thomas G. Hirose, M.D. serves as Medical Director for the apheresis service and is a Transfusion Medicine specialist in Southern California. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine and is Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine for several community hospitals that includes; Good Samaritan Hospital, Little Company of Mary Hospital, San Pedro Peninsula Hospital, and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center and is a member of the medical staff at the City of Hope National Cancer Medical Center and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Hirose received his Transfusion Medicine Fellowship Training at the New England Deaconess Hospital-Harvard Medical School, after completing his pathology residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles.
Board certified in transfusion medicine, anatomic pathology and clinical pathology, he is a recipient of the Fenwal Transfusion Medicine Research Award from the American Association of Blood Banks.
He is a Division Commissioner of Southern California for laboratory accreditation for the College of American Pathologists and is a nationally recognized expert in coagulation and therapeutic apheresis.
The staff Registered Nurses are specialists in lipid absorption apheresis.
The center utilizes the most current technology (Kaneka apheresis MA-01 instrument) for the removal of LDL cholesterol.
